HOW CAN WE BUILD A SHARED FUTURE FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES?

The Community Relations Council (CRC) and Rural Community Network (RCN) are holding two morning seminars (9.30 am to 1.30pm) to explore key community relations themes such as segregation, race relations, shared space and the role of young people in reconciliation on the following dates.

Tuesday 12 February 2008 Ballymac Hotel, Dundrod, Lisburn

Tuesday 19 February 2008 Kelly's Inn, Garvaghy, Omagh,

A number of experts have been engaged to explore these themes and draft up recommendations for action. These recommendations will be presented at the seminars that will aim to explore each theme based on the learning from rural people's experience and knowledge and to ensure that the final outcomes reflect rural views and perspectives.

Ali McAllister, Shared Future Policy Officer with CRC said 'It is crucial that views from the rural community, practitioners and service deliverers are heard so that the final recommendations are robust and achievable for policymakers and politicians, both local and regional, and key voluntary and statutory bodies'.

Michael Hughes, Chief Executive Officer with Rural Community Network commented that 'Rural has an important role to play in the delivery of peace and reconciliation. RCN and CRC are working closely together to ensure that the rural voice can be heard. I believe these seminars will produce a series of important recommendations and actions which we hope will be picked up at Government level and through funding particularly through the localised Peace III action plans.'
