The fourth episode of the new Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster (YFCU) You Tube series has gone online.
The latest episode focuses on the Northern Ireland Ploughing Championships - click above to watch it.
The YFCU fencing competition is heavily featured and includes action of the novice and senior competitions held outside Bushmills last week. Interviewees include judge Crosby Cleland, sponsor Paul Bennington from Ward & Boyd Limited and some of the YFCU participants.
Alan Angus, a former member of County Down club Ballywalter and a winner of the senior YFCU fencing title in 2009 was also filmed and interviewed in his working day in charge of AA Fencing. Alan used a lot of the skills from the YFCU competition to establish his business. This is one of many examples where YFCU members have used skills they learnt in the Association to help them in their careers both on the farm and in other industries.
Also featured in the 11 minute episode was the YFCU Soil Assessment competition held after the fencing competition at the Ploughing. This competition, kindly sponsored by Tesco was judged by CAFRE experts Gerard McDaid and Leigh McClean. They give some of their advice and knowledge to viewers and winner Richard Kane from Spa YFC explains to the camera how the competition helps him make decisions about what to grow on his arable farm in Seaforde.
The series is currently being filmed and directed by Belfast based Production Company and is presented by Stuart McQuitty. There are seven programmes in the series that are being filmed right up to December. A new episode airs online every fortnight.
