Learner drivers are to be charged less to sit their theory tests.
The price will be reduced from £30 to £25 in October – and will drop a further £2 in October 2015.
SDLP Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said the move would save learner drivers over £400,000 annually.
“I am pleased to announce that from this October the fee for car and motorcycle theory tests will fall by £5, taking the cost of a test from £30 to £25,” said Mr Durkan.
“I can also announce that I will reduce the fee by a further £2 in October 2015 to bring the cost down to just £23. Theory test fees for other categories of vehicle will also be reduced.
“By agreeing new contract arrangements for the delivery of theory tests I have secured significant cost savings. I believe it is both right and proper that I pass these savings on to our customers.”
