Lighting deal brings jobs

Brent Boekestein, left, vice president of Global Markets, Redwood Systems and lawrence flavelle, general manager of KNI announce the agreement between the two companies which sees KNI promoting, designing, installing and monitoring customer applications for Redwoods Intelligent Lighting system in the UK and Ireland

A LOCAL ICT systems, structured cabling and engineering services company has been appointed as a UK and Ireland partner of one of the world’s leading companies in Intelligent Lighting solutions resulting in the creation of four new jobs.

Kedington NI (KNI) has secured the agreement with award winning Californian based Redwood Systems to develop sales and manage the design, installation and maintenance of the company’s intelligent and energy-efficient lighting systems across the UK and Ireland.

The first local contract to be delivered under the agreement has been the fit out of the British Council’s new Belfast office on the 7th Floor of The Boat building on Custom House Square.

Recognised as a technology leader in energy efficiency lighting technology, Redwood Systems has developed a ground breaking smart building network platform that integrates lighting with the monitoring of space utilization, temperature and power consumption. Particularly appropriate for high volume usage public and commercial buildings, the system typically provides 75 per cent savings on energy bills and has already been installed by many internationally recognised blue chip companies.

Commenting on the agreement with Redwood, Lawrence Flavelle, General Manager, KNI said that the partnership offered significant opportunities for growth for the local business.

“The partnership has already resulted in the creation of four new jobs in sales and engineering and we are confident that as we build the profile of this technology we will experience further growth,” he said.

“Quite simply the Redwood Systems technology has taken lighting performance to the next level, making it considerably more cost-effective and controlled and, in doing so, making a major contribution to reducing a building’s carbon footprint.”

Jonathan Stewart, Deputy Director, British Council Northern Ireland’s said: “Finding a solution that embraced innovative green technologies in line with the Council’s sustainability policy was paramount.

“As a result of KNI’s innovative design and installation, the British Council can now program its LED lights to operate according to specific schedules, to dim according to individual preference or at certain times of high natural daylight, as well as to switch on and off in response to motion and occupancy. The integration of controls to include Smart Phone with apps accessibility, significantly contributes to energy savings across the lighting system.
