A plaque commemorating a former Israeli president, which had been removed from a north Belfast home, should be lent to Belfast City Hall, it has been suggested.

More than 150 people signed a letter to the Lord Mayor to invite the Ulster History Circle to lend the plaque commemorating Chaim Herzog to city hall.

The plaque had been removed from his birth home in Cliftonpark Avenue earlier this week following a series of attacks.

The letter calls for the citizens of Belfast to demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusivity, and states: “We are shocked by, and deplore, the erasure of an important aspect of Jewish history and culture in north Belfast following racist attacks.”
