An online fundraising campaign has to help Belfast man Ben Crossley – who fell from a three-storey building in Lyon at Euro 2016 last month – has raised more than £2,000.

The 23-year-old, an avid Northern Ireland football fan who had been coaching children football in the United States, broke his right knee cap in three places, suffered a severe ankle sprain and fractured his face in multiple places including his jaw, nose, cheek bones and eye sockets in the fall.

A post on the gofundme site says: “The reason for this GoFundMe page is to help his parents with the financial implications of all the medical bills they will receive. Ben requires a significant amount of dental work, physical and mental therapy to get him back to where he used to be, and where he should be.”

At time of writing it had raised just over $3,000 (roughly £2,258).
