Belfast’s Lord Mayor Brian Kingston will be joined by Lily from Lily’s Driftwood Bay and two of the Clangers to help switch on the Christmas lights in the city centre on Saturday.

A choir from Springfield Primary School will also be on stage for the switch-on ceremony from 6.30pm to 7.15pm. Joining the festive line-up are the Cool FM Breakfast team – Pete Snodden, Rebecca McKinney and Paulo Ross – who will be compering the event.

Alderman Kingston said: “As the Belfast Christmas Market opens at noon on the same day, Saturday will be a great day out in Belfast for the young and the young at heart.”

Due to the build of the Christmas Market and the Christmas lights switch-on event, traffic diversions will be in operation around Belfast City Hall until Sunday.

Motorists are asked to follow the alternative route signage eastbound and northbound from the city centre.
