Commons vote about equality

DAY after day I read letters from people condemning the recent vote in the House of Commons in favour of equal marriage rights.

Many of these letters are written by people who refer to the Bible and what it has to say about homosexuality.

Perhaps the authors of these letters could help me with some Biblical questions which have been troubling me. I’m interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. What do you think would be a good price for her?

While thinking about that, can I ask another? My neighbour (a nurse) insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says she should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill her myself or is it okay to call the police?

Think about those questions, would you? This vote was about equality and about allowing more people to join the wonderful institution of marriage, not to demean it in any way. You have every right to your views and your beliefs, let us live with ours. Remember, Jesus said: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
