Counting cost of Irish unity

editorial image

I wonder if Sinn Fein has carried out a proper survey of public opinion in the Republic to see if the Irish people there want this place.

For they would be picking up the bill for these few weeks of flag protests. How will they feel about forking out millions for these few weeks so far? Then there is the cost of the Orange marches, especially the confrontational ones at Ardoyne, Lower Ormeau, and Garvaghy Road. Do they realise they will be paying for all this? Have they said they want us, no matter what the cost to them? I suspect there will be huge costs for the rioting that will follow any vote for unification.

I presume that GB will pay for those of us who want relocated to the mainland.

Has anyone given thought to the costs, this side of the frontier or on the other side? I suspect that the Irish in the Republic see themselves as a result of the financial crisis and bailout as already being debt slaves. Personally, I would be surprised if they wanted to add to themselves a further expenditure for Orange parades and loyalist protests.
