Boy, 12, hit in face with brick while sleeping

An incident in which a 12 year-old boy was hit in the face by a brick while asleep in bed has been condemned as “disgraceful”.

The boy has been left with swelling above his eye and is said to have been left badly shaken after the incident at Kilmakevit Square area of Cullybackey shortly before 1.30am on Thursday.

The boy’s mother, who was also in the house at the time, was not injured.

Police said they are still investigating a motive for the attack

SDLP Ballymena Councillor Declan O’Loan condemned the incident and urged anyone with information to go to the police.

“This was a disgraceful incident and a very traumatic one for the family, and I extend my sympathy to them,” he said.

“The young boy could have been even more seriously injured. I have little doubt that there will be clear leads for the police to use in their investigation and I hope that those responsible will be brought to book quickly. I urge anyone with information to give it to the PSNI at once.”
