Call for Adams to be arrested over McConville case
A veteran republican from west Belfast has called for Gerry Adams’ arrest over the 1972 murder of Jean McConville.
Evelyn Gilroy was commenting following the detention of a number of less influential republicans in recent weeks.
Ms Gilroy said she was speaking out for the first time because she was “very angry” that grassroots republicans were being questioned by police – claiming that the Sinn Fein president was better placed to answer questions about the abduction and shooting dead of the mother-of-10.
“Police have lifted people who were 15 and 16 at the time of the killing, yet Gerry Adams remains untouched.
“I’m disgusted that ordinary republicans are being put through the mill for his actions,” she told the Sunday Life newspaper.
Mr Adams has repeatedly denied any involvement in the murder and said he is happy to speak to police if required.
