A car was burned and rubbish was set on fire as trouble flared in Carrickfergus on Thursday evening.

Around 9pm, police received reports of the disorder in the Woodburn Avenue and the Hollies area of the town.

Alliance East Antrim MLA, Stewart Dickson, condemned those responsible.

“There is no place for violence on our streets. The people responsible are attempting to intimidate the local community, but they will not succeed. Their actions are not wanted by the people of Carrickfergus or Larne,” he said.

“I am appalled by the activities of those behind this trouble. They are not adding anything to our society. I would urge anybody with any information about this trouble to contact the police,” Mr Dickson added.
