Police in Dungannon are investigating allegations of abusive comments sent via Twitter to footballer Stan Collymore.

A tweet was reportedly sent with the location of the user given as Dungannon, however the account has since been suspended.

A PSNI spokesman said: “Police in Dungannon are aware of abusive comments posted on social media in relation to an individual.”

Collymore has been subject to a barrage of racist abuse in recent days and he has taken to twitter to demand the social networking site take action.

The ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa footballer now working as a pundit for TalkSport has accused Twitter of not doing enough to combat abusive messages after he was targeted by Internet trolls.
