Elderly couple robbed at knifepoint walking in Newtownards

An elderly couple have been robbed while walking in Newtownards.

The pair were walking in the Shackleton Walk area of the Co Down town when they were approached by two unknown masked males.

The incident happened shortly before 8.30am on Saturday.

A PSNI statement said: “It is believed the males threatened the couple with a knife and then made off from the area with a handbag. The couple, who were not injured, were left badly shaken during the incident.”

The two males are described as wearing dark clothing and both men were believed to have been wearing balaclavas.

Police said that inquiries are continuing.

“Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area to contact them at Newtownards CID on the non-emergency number 101,” the PSNI said.
