Man arrested after attempted hijacking in Belfast


Detectives in West Belfast are appealing for information after an attempted hijacking in the Victoria Parade area in the early hours of March 8.

Shortly after 1.45am it was reported that a taxi driver was at the rear of his taxi assisting with a fare when a male jumped into the drivers seat of the car and attempted to drive off.

When he realised there were no keys in the car he got out and became involved in an altercation with the taxi driver.

A second male who was a passenger in another taxi also became involved in the altercation.

The taxi driver managed to escape to safety from the two males. He did however sustain a number of non life threatening injuries in the incident.

A 25-year-old man was arrested a and subsequently released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Detectives would ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact them at CID in Woodbourne Police Station.
