Man in court to face charge of attempted murder in west Belfast

A man was remanded into custody today charged with attempting to murder a stab victim in west Belfast.

Conor Paul Montgomery, 26, appeared before the city’s Magistrates’ Court accused of carrying out the attack on Ryan Conlon.

At time of writing, it was understood that Mr Conlon, 23, remained critically ill in hospital following the alleged stabbing in the Brittons Parade area on Saturday night.

Montgomery, of Glenkeen in Dunmurry, faces a single charge of attempted murder.

Entering the dock dressed in a sweatshirt, he spoke only to confirm he understood the count against him.

An investigating detective constable said he could connect Montgomery to the alleged offence.

No questions were put to the officer during the brief hearing.

Defence lawyer Philip Breen said: “There’s no application for bail this morning – there will be at a later stage.”

Montgomery was remanded back into custody to appear again by video-link on September 26.
