Man released after critical injury crash in Whitehead

Police are continuing to appeal to anyone who has any information about the collision at Slaughterhouse Road at Whitehead to contact them at Newtownabbey station.

A PSNI spokesman said the 17-year-old girl involved in the crash was still in a critical condition in hospital, according to their latest report on Tuesday night.

The man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily injury, following the two-vehicle collision on the Slaughterford Road, Whitehead, area on Monday night.

He was believed to have been driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa at the time of the incident.

He was also arrested on suspicion of failing to remain at the scene.

Shortly before 9pm on Monday, it was reported that a black Hyundai Santa Fe and a blue Renault Clio were involved in the incident.

The 17-year-old girl, believed to be a passenger in the Renault Clio, was taken to hospital for injuries.

Her condition on Tuesday was described as critical.

A 39-year-old woman received minor injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

A 17-year-old youth was also taken to hospital, again for non-life threatening injuries.

Police said that they would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident to contact them in Newtownabbey by using the non-emergency number 101.
