Police investigating after string of car attacks in Antrim


Police are appealing for information after a numerous cars were attacked or destroyed in Antrim overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.

The passenger window of a Renault in a shopping centre car park on Queens Road was smashed. Police said a number of youths were seen in the area.

In the Rathkyle area a window of a Volkswagen was smashed while a Citroen 
C2 was set alight, the blaze from which also damaged a Subaru.

A Vauxhall Vectra was burnt out in the Oaktree Drive area while an attempt was made to break into a Ford in Edenvale Park area, with the rubber seal around the window damaged.

A Vauxhall Astra was stolen in a creeper-style burglary in the Rathmore Gardens area.

It was later recovered by police in the Greystone Road area.

Police said they were investigating a possible link between the incidents.

Alliance councillor Neil Kelly said the attacks were “completely unacceptable” and inconvenienced a number of families.
