Police have named the man who died following an assault in Newtownards early this morning as 24-year-old Richard Miskelly.

The victim, aged in his 20s, was found by police lying on the ground as they responded to a report of an assault.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police can confirm that the man who died following an assault on Bangor Road in Newtownards early this morning was 24 year old Richard Miskelly from the Newtownards area.”

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway from Serious Crime Branch said: “Shortly after 5.30am police responded to a report that a man had been assaulted outside a house in the area. A man, aged in his 20’s, was discovered lying on the road.

“He was treated by Ambulance staff but died at the scene a short time later. A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to help determine the cause of death.

“Two males, both aged 19, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody at this time.
