Public step in after woman threatened with a needle

Police say they have arrested a man who reportedly threatened a woman with a needle and forced her from her car before members of the public stepped in to help in Belfast City Centre yesterday evening.

The PSNI say they have arrested a 20-year-old male following the incident in Bankmore Street yesterday evening, Monday 24 April.

A police spokesperson said: “At around 6.25pm it was reported that a man approached a female who was returning to her car in a local car park and threatened her with a needle. He forced the female from her car and got into the vehicle with the keys.

“He was prevented from driving off by the victim, who was helped by members of the public. He was arrested by officers on suspicion of hijacking, criminal damage and possessing an article with blade or point in a public place and remains in Police custody at this time.”

The spokesperson added: “The female was not injured but left shaken by her ordeal.”
