String of charges after west Belfast hijack incident

A 33-year-old man faces a long list of charges following a report of a vehicle hijacking in west Belfast.

He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today charged with hijacking, kidnapping, false imprisonment, aggravated vehicle taking in which vehicle is driven dangerously, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, dangerous driving, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and threats to kill.

It follows a report of a female driver of a red Audi being approached and threatened by a man with a knife before 9pm on Friday in the New Barnsley Park area.

A window of the Audi was damaged before he drove off in the direction of La Salle Drive.

The red Audi was found abandoned at around 9pm at the La Salle Drive area.
