Online threats against a teacher, who is also a Sinn Fein councillor, have been condemned.

John Blair, a representative of the Alliance party in north Belfast, was speaking about a campaign to remove the councillor as a teacher at the Boys’ Model School.

The teacher is believed to have felt unable to return to the school. Mr Blair said: “It is completely unacceptable that a teacher going about her daily duties has been targeted in this way.”

The Ulster Unionist Party added its voice to the condemnation.

Party Leader, Mike Nesbitt MLA, said: “We believe passionately in a shared future. This means we must all accept there will be new normals, including members of one of our traditional communities becoming embedded in the other.

“In this specific, if parents, pupils or indeed staff have genuine concerns, there is no shortage of resource and guidance to find a solution without recourse to sectarianism and intimidation.”
