Police are investigating an assault upon two men and woman in south Armagh which left them requiring hospital treatment.

It happened in the Cullyhana area on Friday morning.

Police said their injuries were not life threatening. A child was in a car when the window was broken, police said, however a spokesman said the child was not injured.

Detective Inspector Harry Colgan appealed for information on tel 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

SDLP Newry and Armagh MLA Justin McNulty believed the child had also been injured.

“I’m totally horrified by this vicious attack that left three adults and a child seriously injured,” he said.

The victims are at a complete loss as to why they were targeted, he said.

“I have been told that the victims were at the building site of a new house when they were confronted by three men wielding a shovel and a wheel brace.” When their attackers realised that there was a young child in the car, they smashed the windows in showering the infant with glass.”
