Two charged after woman attacked in Belleeks

A 44-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder in Belleeks, Co Armagh.

The man - who is also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, threats to kill, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, common assault and attempt to commit grievous bodily harm - is expected to appear before Newry Magistrates Court tomorrow [July 28].

A 43-year-old man has also been charged with aiding and abetting assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

He is expected to appear before Newry Magistrates Court on August 20.

The men were detained after a report of an assault at residential premises in the village in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said that at around 6.20am, it was reported that a 33-year-old female was assaulted in the area.

“The female was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.”
