A man has been taken to hospital after an incident in the Great Victoria Street area of Belfast this morning.

A PSNI spokesman said officers responded to a report of “a violent male shortly before 5am”.

“This man has been taken to hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in the incident,” said the spokesman.

“Great Victoria Street remains closed Citybound while the investigation continues.”

Later it emerged that the incident is now being dealt with by the office of the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland.
