A young girl has been left shaken after three masked men hijacked the van in which she was travelling.

The incident happened in the Glenowen Park area of Londonderry yesterday at 11.30pm.

Police received a report that three masked men stopped the vehicle and threatened the driver if he did not hand over the van.

“Both the driver and the girl got out of the van before the three males made off in it,” said a PSNI spokesman.

“Neither the driver nor the girl were injured, however they were left very badly shaken.”

The masked men made off in the van which was later found burnt out in the Central Drive area of the city.

Police would ask anyone who may have witnessed this hijacking or the burning of the vehicle to contact them on the non emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
