Youth injured after 'reckless' armed gang assault

A 17-year-old male has sustained injuries to his face, hands, shoulder and legs after an armed gang attack in the Maryville Street area of south Belfast this morning.

A PSNI spokesman said that between 1am and 1.30an police received a report that a 17-year-old male "was assaulted by a group of males armed with baseball bats".

"This was quite a reckless act and I would ask the for the public’s assistance in bringing the perpetrators to justice," qadded the spokesman.

"I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident, or knows anything about it, to contact non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 100 of 11/05/17. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
