MINCE pies, mulled wine, unique handmade gifts and some Armagh Georgian culture and history to boot will be showcased in Armagh tomorrow (Saturday).
People will be celebrating the Georgian era with horse-drawn carriages, children’s street games and theatre, living history characters, a spectacular light projection show and much more.
With more than 20,000 people expected to flock to the city celebrations, Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s Pauline Gormley says it’s good way to kick off the Christmas festivities.
“Georgian Day marks the start of Armagh’s Christmas celebrations and promises to be a fantastic day out for the whole family. This year will be bigger and better than ever before and the city will be bustling with people and entertainment,” she said.
“The day is one of the most exciting and unique celebrations in the festive calendar and offers a truly special atmosphere that everyone will enjoy.”
Pauline promises plenty of entertainment for the little ones, adding, “There will also be horse-drawn carriages around the mall area, children’s street games and theatre as well as living history characters in full Georgian dress that will entertain the crowds throughout the city,”
As nightfall sets in the skies will come alive with a spectacular light show with special effects and colour. A special surprise will be in store for the kids as Santa drops by for a visit.
Georgian Day will be in full swing from 10am until 6pm. A free park and ride scheme will be running from Palace Demesne and Elim Church.
Traffic disruption is expected as Thomson Street, Scotch Street to the junction with Linenhall Street and Market Street will be closed during the celebrations.
