Farmland belonging to the man convicted of murdering farm labourer Philip Strickland was searched by detectives investigating the murder of Bangor woman Lisa Dorrian.

It has emerged that Co Down farmer Jimmy Seales’ farmland in Comber was searched by detectives investigating the nine-year-old murder last October.

Seales is now serving a life sentence after being convicted of the murder of the 37-year-old Mr Strickland who died on the outskirts of Comber in January 11, 2012.

He had initially been shot in the leg at a yard on the Ballyglighorn Road, near Comber before being bundled into the boot of his own car and driven a short distance to the Ballydrain Road, where he was shot in the face at point blank range.

Yesterday a PSNI spokesman said: “Detectives investigating the murder of Lisa Dorrian concluded a search of land in the Comber area on 22 October 2012.

“Nothing of significance was found.

“Police inquiries are continuing and we would repeat their appeal to anyone who has information about Lisa’s murder to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Last night Joanne Dorrian, a younger sister of murdered Lisa declined to comment on the land searches in Comber.

She said: “It will be the ninth anniversary of Lisa’s death on Friday.

“We still meet with the police on a regular basis and the investigation is still ongoing and still active.

“In the terrible situation we are in it is the best we can hope for, that they are still investigating.”

Joanne made an appeal “to the small number of people who have information about where Lisa is and what happened to her who haven’t come forward to do so now”.

She said: “Nine years is a lifetime. There is a new generation in the family now and Lisa has not been here to see that.

“There are people out there who know they could end this for us and I would ask them to come forward and do that.

“They should think about their own children and imagine the daily torture for our family.

“My mother is consumed by it.”

She added that had Lisa been still alive she would be 34-years-old, “coming 35-years in June.”
