Elections 2014 video: Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams cheered by raucous supporters at Belfast City Hall

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams was cheered and had his name chanted by adoring supporters as he arrived at Belfast City Hall.

In scenes more usually seen during the arrival of a rock star or a religious leader, the former West Belfast MP had his name chanted during a two-minute ovation.

Mr Adams, who was recently arrested and released without charge over the gruesome murder of mother-of-10 Jean McConville, arrived at Belfast City Hall on Saturday afternoon, as counting continued.

Although Sinn Fein has performed strongly throughout the city, it has lost ground in some areas and former Lord Mayor Niall O’Donnghaile faces the possibility of losing his seat.
