Preparations are under way for the The Lleyn Sheep Breeder NI Club charity open day and barbecue on Saturday 16th August hosted by the Kennedy Family, Mileview and Skilganaban Lleyns prize winning flock, 45, Templepatrick Road, Ballyclare, BT39 9TX.
Lleyn Sheep originate from the Lleyn Peninsula in North Wales.
The characteristics of the breed are good conformation and tight skins and the key factors of milkiness, longevity, prolificacy and maternal instincts have seen the Lleyn become the fastest growing breed in the UK.
The Lleyn thrives on both lowland and upland grazing and its versatility makes it suitable for many farming systems in Northern Ireland. As a breed Lleyn excels at producing both prime lambs and breeding replacements.
The open day commences at 3.30pm, admission is free with a talk by Eileen McCloskey, CAFRE, sheep shower and sheep dog demonstrations by John Holden and Robert Goligher, trade stands, model farm, vintage tractors, stockjudging, Saler cattle and farm walk so there is plenty to see and do.
The charity barbecue and auction starts at 6.00pm which is ticket only and is cooked by McMaster Home Farm Meats with £5, £10 and £15 tickets available there is plenty of choice from burgers, sausages, chicken, steak and salads followed by desserts etc.
The charity auction items will include two Reg. Lleyn ewe lambs provided by the Kennedy family, meal supplied by Francis Connon General Merchants, Afternoon Tea, Ross Park Hotel, Provita Goods, Provita and Meal, R and K Blair.
The proceeds of the day will go to Daisy Lodge, Cancer Fund for Children NI.
Set in the foothills of the Mournes the Daisy Lodge offers families a short break giving them quality time together in a relaxing holiday environment.
This includes families nursing a child with Cancer, bereaved families and families in which a parent has been diagnosed with cancer.
So come along and enjoy a day out with Lleyn members and friends and help support the Daisy Lodge Cancer Fund For Children NI.
