Prince George celebrated his first birthday with a party attended by the Queen and some of his godparents.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held the event at their refurbished Kensington Palace apartment and invited close family and friends.

Earlier the Queen had spent some quality time privately with her great grandson when William and Kate took the toddler to Buckingham Palace.

The Royal party are likely to have enjoyed tea in the Queen’s private apartments but they probably kept a watchful eye on the future king.

The Duke revealed last week during a visit to Coventry that his son is charging around and can open doors.

Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales was presented with a special gift for his grandson’s first birthday on a visit to a Scottish estate.

Charles was gifted a giant hand-made red squirrel toy for Prince George on a visit to Glendelvine Estate near Dunkeld in Perthshire.

He was also given handmade cards and posters made by Perthshire children for the youngest royal.
