Fermanagh Sir Knights prepare for town parade
THOUSANDS are expected to descend upon Enniskillen on Satur-day for the annual Fermanagh Royal Black Preceptory demonstration.
As is traditional, Sir Knights in the lakeland county parade on the second Saturday in August while brethren across Northern Ireland do not step out until the end of the month in the culmination of the parading season.
Approximately 40 lodges and accompanying bands will be on the parade in the town for the first time in 28 years.
Fermanagh Sir Knights will be joined by brethren from the border counties of Cavan, Monaghan and Leitrim.
This year's parade will be hosted by Royal Black Preceptory No 36.
Sir Knights will assemble at the Broad Meadows car park, parading along the two-mile route via the Wellington Road, Belmore Street, East Bridge Street, Main Street and Castle Street before returning to the same venue for a religious service.
The guest speaker will be the Rev Tom Greer, Imperial Deputy Grand Chaplain.
Resolutions will be read by Assistant Sovereign Grand Master Clive Whiteside and seconded by Sovereign Grand Master Millar Farrar.
The service will be chaired by County Grand Master Hazlett Moore.
Organisers are hopeful the refined route, which is much shorter than the Twelfth demonstration held in the town last year, will ensure a more "closely-knit" parade.
Imperial Deputy Grand Master Sam Foster, a member of RBP No 36, is confident a colourful carnival-type atmosphere will ensue as pipe, brass and flute bands are in attendance.
"This is a parade which always creates a pleasant, family-type atmosphere," the former Stormont minister said.
"We (the Royal Black Preceptory) look for and seek a decent, responsible and respectable parade."
The procession is scheduled to leave the Broad Meadows car park at 1pm sharp.
