A free “beach party” is to be held at Belfast City Hall this coming bank holiday Monday.
Organised by the SDLP Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon there will be sandpits, deck chairs, picnic tables, a barbecue, fruit cocktails, and buckets and spades.
In addition there will be family events such as face painting, inflatables, body zorbing (where participants are placed in giant bouncy spheres) and balloon-making, plus samba music and a DJ.
The event runs from 11am until 5pm on Monday, August 25.
The mayor said in a statement accompanying the news: “Families are always looking for ways to entertain young people on a bank holiday and this seemed the perfect way to provide it...
“City Hall belongs to the people of Belfast and yet for many people it is seen as remote from their daily lives.
“I want City Hall to be at the heart of Belfast, open, accessible and welcoming for everyone including our many visitors from outside the city.
“This is a fun and enjoyable way to open up City Hall and we’ll have something for everyone.”
Free exercise classes in Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates and Dance are running three times a day at 7.30am, 12.30pm and 5.15pm until Thursday at the City Hall, August 21, with a kids’ yoga session to run at 12.30pm on Wednesday, August 20.
