Funerals will be held today for the friends who died in an horrific car crash in the early hours of Mother’s Day.

Grant Archer, 23, and 28-year-old Robert Wilkinson died when their car crashed on the Old Coagh Road on the outskirts of Cookstown.

The funeral service for Mr Archer from Newmills, Co Tyrone, will held at 2.30pm in Brackaville Parish Church, Coalisland.

He will be buried in the adjoining churchyard.

His father Phillip told the News Letter that his son, who had worked with him in Muldoon Transport Systems in Dungannon, will be buried in his motorcycle leathers. He said that “everybody liked” his son who “didn’t give much trouble”.

The grieving father said he had just “bought himself a motorbike — and was going to do his test next week for it”.

He will be missed by his mother Laura, father Phillip, sister Holly and wider family circle.

Meanwhile, at noon the funeral service for Mr Wilkinson will be held in R Steenson and Son Funeral Home in Cookstown with interment afterwards in Cookstown cemetery.

Mr Wilkinson will be missed by his mother Evelyn, father John and siblings Caroline and David.

SDLP Councillor for Cookstown, Tony Quinn, said it had been several years since the last double tragedy in the area.

“To lose two in one road traffic collision is so cruel,” he said.
