The North West Championships at Portrush saw the curtain brought down on another successful competition season for local pipe bands.
Thousands of people lined the main street as bands and drum majors paraded their silverware through the town from Ramore Head.
Crowds packed the north coast venue’s recreation grounds for the contest and finale which saw drum majors Zoe McDowell and Jason Price, along with the drum corps of Syerla & District, honoured for their success at the World Pipe Band Championships the previous weekend.
Cullybackey ran out winners of grade one taking prizes for best pipes, drums and bass section ahead of Ravara and Seven Towers, who had the best M&D.
Grade 2 went to Bleary & District who shared the prize for best pipes with second placed PSNI. Third place and prizes for best drums and bass section went to Manorcunningham with Aughintober in fourth.
First place and the prize for best drums in grade 3a went to Killeen with Raffrey second, Ballybriest third and Moneygore taking fourth place on ensemble preference. There was a three-way tie for the best pipes between Killeen, Raffrey and Ballybriest. Raffrey also won best M&D while Gortaclare claimed the prize for best bass section.
Tullylagan were the winners in grade 3b. Syerla & District won prizes for best drum corps and bass section and took second place on ensemble preference ahead of Upper Crossgare, who had the best pipes. Thiepval Memorial claimed fourth place while the M&D prize went to Matt Boyd Memorial.
The young pipers and drummers from Cullybackey swept all before them in grade 4a winning first place overall and collecting prizes for best pipes, drum corps, bass section and M&D.
Completing the top four were Tullintrain, who were also the best North West band, McNeilstown and Closkelt.
Letterkenny & District took the honours in grade 4b. Battlehill were second and had the best bass section with M&D prize winners Derryclavin third. Raphoe took fourth place and the prize for best drums, Ballydonaghy were fifth and Whitewater sixth. Battlehill and Derryclavin shared the prize for best pipes.
North West champion drum majors were Paula Braiden (Cullybackey), Lauren Abraham (Seven Towers), Zoe McDowell (Aughintober) and Jamie Cupples (Killeen).
Saturday’s competition also saw the conclusion of the Champion of Champions series and the results are included below each grade.
