A special football tournament is to take place at Stormont which will celebrate organ donation as a ‘Gift Of A Lifetime’ or GOAL.
Northern Ireland’s first ever GOAL Tournament is a fun competition which will take place on Sunday, September 29 at the pavilion in the grounds of Stormont, from 10.30am.
Yesterday those who turned up to promote the event at Stormont included Linfield striker Peter Thompson, Crusaders goalkeeper Yohann Lacroix, five-time medal winner at the 2013 British Transplant Games Hannah Kee, UUP MLA Jo-Anne Dobson, William Johnston of the Northern Ireland Transplant Forum, the BBC’s Stephen Watson and representatives from donor families and transplant survivors.
The event will be open to the public and mimics the format of a World Cup, including 16 teams from right across Northern Ireland competing against each other.
The GAA staff will play IFA staff and medical practitioners from across the province.
The event is being organised by the the Northern Ireland Transplant Forum, which includes six organ transplant charities from around the Province.
