THE Health Minister yesterday hailed a new facility which he says will help drive best practice in cancer care in Northern Ireland.
Opening the Molecular Pathology Laboratory and Biobank at Queen’s University in Belfast, Edwin Poots said the technology would not only benefit Ulster patients, but also have “a global impact on the diagnosis and treatment of illness”.
Molecular pathology is the use of modern genomic techniques to aid the diagnosis of disease and understand the impact of treatments.
The Biobank maintains tissue and fluid samples from patients according to strict ethically-approved standards.
Mr Poots added: “I wish to applaud colleagues both in Queen’s and the Belfast Trust on this important milestone.”
