Edwin Poots has been heavily criticised over health care workers who face ongoing difficulties with their salary payments.
Ulster Unionist MLA Ross Hussey has described the minister as “presiding over yet another self-inflicted crisis”, and said the problem has been going on for months.
“Edwin Poots’s claim that he wasn’t directly aware of the problems being encountered every month by staff is completely baseless,” Mr Hussey said.
“Over recent weeks and months a number of health staff, especially nurses, have approached me seeking assistance in getting what they are properly and contractually entitled to. Staff, especially those working in the health sector, deserve to be paid on time and be paid every penny they are owed.”
SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly said almost 30,000 staff have been underpaid and, in some cases, not paid at all, and that she has been inundated with calls from concerned nurses.
“Quite clearly this new IT system is not fit-for-purpose and the minister must, as a matter of urgency, have this resolved as soon as possible.
“Questions must be asked,” she said.
