If we vote Leave we cannot return to EU, if we vote Remain we can leave at a later date

Due to the past 40 years of conflict here many of us lost the opportunity to live normal lives, we were divided by religion and politics.

Shortly we will vote in a referendum that will affect our children for their lifetime and that of generations to come, let us hope we make the right choice that will enable them to have the future that we lost.

Unfortunately for many of us this has become confusing as the opposing sides fed us a diet of so called facts many of which are opinions with a few untruths on top.

We have been told that migrants have been responsible for deflating wages, this is untrue, low wages have been caused by employers seeking cheap labour to maximise profits and ourselves who want to pay the lowest possible price for our goods and services.

Migrants come here to make a good life for their families and in doing so like ourselves will want to get the best wages possible, unfortunately this does not always happen as they tend to have to take jobs that we do not want, particularly in the agriculture and food industries.

We should all remember that from the time of the Pilgrim fathers to the present day we too have been migrants, in recent years many of our towns and villages have been depopulated of our young as we have watched them migrate to Canada, Australia and elsewhere in the world.

We are informed by the leave campaigners that if we vote leave we will be able to strike trade deals all over the place, what they don’t say is that we already trade worldwide and that the success of Britain has historically been based on our trade links with most nations.

When we shop in our supermarkets we see potatoes are not just from the Glens of Antrim but from Israel and Egypt, vegetables from Mexico, Egypt, Peru, Chile, beef from Argentina and Brazil, lamb from New Zealand, wine from Argentina, Chile, South Africa and California.

Our clothes labels tell us they come from India, China, Thailand, Korea, Mexico, Brazil to name a few. Our televisions, most electronic goods etc. are made in China and elsewhere in the far east.

Many of our service sector and insurance companies are worldwide, when we have a problem with our broadband etc. we don’t talk to someone from here with a funny accent, they are more likely to be from India, China is building our newest power station.

I do not think I need say more other than, what was Jonathan Bell doing in China, Arlene, Peter, Martin our business leaders and others doing in other parts of the world if they were not there to develop trade links and strike deals?

The “battle bus” and so called financial gurus of the leave campaign tell us that if we vote leave we will save £350 million per week that can go into the NHS, lately this has been rounded down to £74 million, should the country vote leave then we will remember them and remind them that they owe the NHS this money every week.

Let us hope we make the right choice on Thursday and secure a great future for our children.

If we vote leave we commit future generations to a single pathway with little possibility of a return to Europe, vote remain and we retain the option of choice in the future.

As most of us will probably make our decision based on trust, Nigel Farage, Boris Johnston, Gove, Duncan Smith, Villiers on one side, David Cameron on the other.

I know the one I trust most.
