IFA must root out sectarian bigots

editorial image

editorial image

THE disgraceful behaviour of Cliftonville fans during the minute’s silence at Solitude on Saturday can only be described as naked sectarianism.

The silence was disrupted by these sectarian bigots, who repeatedly booed and sang what I consider to be offensive sectarian pro-IRA songs.

I call on all representatives in Stormont including Sinn Fein to condemn, unreservedly, the actions of the moronic elements at Solitude on Saturday.

They obviously don’t realise that both Protestants and Catholics from all parts of this island have paid the ultimate price, during many conflicts, for the freedoms they enjoy today.

While I appreciate not all Cliftonville fans were so disrespectful, and the club itself couldn’t prevent it, the IFA must now take action to force Cliftonville to root out these people and ban them for life.

I have reported this episode to the PSNI as a hate crime and have demanded that they take action employing the same resources that they would if this had been racist, anti-Catholic sectarianism or homophobia.

Readers will recall that no stone was left unturned in the witchhunt against the Young Conway Volunteers Flute Band.
