A MAN has been found guilty of the murder of Fermanagh toddler, which a judge has described “despicable” and “almost beyond understanding”.
Barry Michael McCarney from Trillick, was found guilty of murder and sexual assault.
The toddler’s mother Rachael Martin, from Main Street in Kesh, was cleared of allowing her daughter’s death and cruelty to her daughter.
Images released on Tuesday, show McCarney rushing Millie’s lifeless body into hospital.
Neil Anderson from the NSPCC Northern Ireland described the case as “deeply disturbing”.
“Millie Martin will be remembered as the victim of one of the most horrific cases of child abuse Northern Ireland has ever seen,” he said.
“One clear message from this deeply disturbing case is the need for vigilance among healthcare professionals, family, friends, neighbours, and the community as a whole.
“It is vitally important that everyone who has a role in working with and caring for children is aware of the signs of abuse.
“It is also essential that having recognised the signs of abuse that appropriate and timely action is taken.”
