In pictures: Crowds celebrate Thatcher’s death

Crowds gathered in Londonderry on Monday evening to celebrate the death of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Lanterns were lit and a procession of cars drove through parts of the city’s Bogside area with tricolors flying from the windows.

Elsewhere in Glasgow and Brixton hundreds gathered and wore party hats while drinking champagne as they cheered Baroness Thatcher’s death.

Martin Chomsky, the lead singer of Chomsky Allstars, penned the song So Long Margaret Thatcher a number of years ago.

He performed the song in George Square on Monday night. He said: “There are mixed emotions. I was never brought up to celebrate anyone’s death but the pain she brought to Latin America, Europe and around the world should be remembered.

“I would rather that Thatcherism was dead because she is mostly to blame for what is going on today.

“She is responsible, but not solely, for the massive gap between the rich and the poor.”
