DUP leader Mrs Foster and her predecessor Peter Robinson will both pay their respects to the former deputy first minister, who died on Tuesday after a short illness.

North Antrim MLA Mr Allister said: “Despite all the platitudes about victims’ feelings, Arlene Foster’s conscience decision to attend the funeral of IRA Commander and victim-maker, McGuinness, prioritises her political desire to rehabilitate herself with the republican community in pursuit of a deal with Sinn Fein.

“A funeral is an occasion when the life of the deceased is celebrated, as well as their passing mourned. Like many of the victims of his murderous IRA I see nothing to celebrate in the life of Martin McGuinness. In truth more of our best citizens would still be alive today but for his wicked direction and practice of terrorism.

“Thus, I regret the telling choice the DUP has made.”
