As the Queens festival draws to a close, the guys at Cinemagic are working on attracting the artistic and creative young minds of the future with their Talent Lab events. Young people aged 16-25,

Promising to be a fantastic mix of creativity, fun and learning, the eight 'Talent Lab' master classes will run from November 28-30 in Belfast Metropolitan College at the Castlereagh Campus. Masterclasses include Acting with John Thomson (Cold Feet, The Fast Show) and Pauline Quirke (Birds of a Feather, Maisie Raine), Writing for Film with Martin Duffy (The Boy From Mercury), TV Production with Chris Cowey (Top of the Pops), Television Presenting with Dermot O'Leary (Big Brother's Little Brother), Magazine Publishing with Barry McIlheney (Emap), Radio Production with Marc Mallet (Citybeat) and Music for Film with Filmbase.
As the ice hockey season continues, the Coors Belfast Giants visited Toddsleap.com multi activity centre for a day of team building and motivation. The Giants swapped their skates for outdoor sporting pursuits such as Off Road Driving, quad biking, blind landrover driving, archery and wall climbing. Toddsleap has fast become popular with sporting teams keen to improve on-pitch performance and it shouldn't be too long before VIP takes to the Toddsleap adventure.
On the art front this week, VIP popped in briefly to catch artist Steven Geary at his successful first exhibition at the Frameworks Gallery on Belfast's Ormeau Road. The talented young artist sold almost all of his pieces on the first night, so a big well done to him! And another new start is toasted as UTV's Tracey Magee swapped the TV studio for the kitchen recently as she and partner Ian opened Courtney's in Belfast city centre. The perfect spot for a mid morning coffee, quick lunch or lingering afternoon tea, we at VIP wish Tracey and Ian all the very best with this new venture.
At the CIM marketing awards recently, young marketer Thomas McCaffrey took the Young Marketer of the Year Award while another friend of VIP, Wendi Kane, from Belfast City Council took a deserved award for the marketing of the MORE TIME campaign which brought hundreds of people back in to the city centre in the early evenings for the past year.
The evening economy promotion was nominated for the Marketing Excellence award in the public sector category and judges said the award recognised the work Belfast City Council is undertaking to ensure that it is a strong strategic leader, creating wealth and improving the quality of life for all. Supported by Belfast City Council's 'Brighter Belfast' campaign, the evening economy drive succeeded in improving the vibrancy of the city centre between 5pm – 8pm on midweek evenings, developing key services to meet the needs of city centre workers, visitors, students and residents. It is estimated to have generated an income of around 31 million for the local economy. Before this latest success, the MoreTime project already had a hat-trick of accolades on the shelf including winning 'Project of the Year' at the annual William Johnston Memorial Trust Local Government Awards, the Belfast Business Marketing Excellence Award and the Association of Town Centre Management Awards, so well done Wendi who carries out all the hard work on the ground.
Finally, one of Northern Ireland's leading hairdressing salons has joined forces with a top beauty consultant in a major investment that will create the 'ultimate hair and beauty experience' for clients – and five new jobs. Surgery Hairdressing and Rouge Beauty Clinic have relocated their businesses to an exclusively designed three-storey salon in Moy's Killyman Street in County Tyrone. Lorraine Quinn, proprietor of the Wella Elite Surgery Hairdressing salon, and Rouge owner Andrea Murray have known each other and worked together on various projects for five years. Now they believe that this latest move will develop both their businesses and their client base. Speaking at the opening night of their new state-of-the-art premises Lorraine Quinn said, "Having run my own salon for six years, growing customer demand meant that we required larger premises so we took the opportunity to link up with Andrea and her own expanding beauty business.
"As experts in our own fields, we felt that by coming together we could give our clients the best hair and beauty treatments under one roof. Andrea and I are really delighted with the positive reaction from our clients."
Working at the top of her profession for 16 years now, Lorraine's experience and expertise is in demand for external photo shoots and educational seminars for companies, such as the recent Wella Professionals event in Omagh and the front cover of Ulster Tatler's August edition. (which we also featured here on VIP). The new-look salon provides clients with a chance to experience a range of unique facilities including a hair spa and relaxation area in the basement and a VIP room designed exclusively to cater for bridal parties and girlie gatherings. We loved it at VIP!
