£180 million boost for health and social care in Belfast
HEALTH Minister Michael McGimpsey has today revealed £180 million is to be invested in capital projects over the next three years to improve health and social care services in Belfast.
The funding is part of a total planned investment of 580 million over the next ten years for the Belfast Trust area.
New developments and an upgrading of existing services will take place across a range of primary, secondary and community care areas, designed to bring about major improvements in services to the public.
But he revealed a new Women's Hospital was not projected to open its doors before 2017 and a Children's Hospital before 2021.
Speaking as he cut the first sod on the site of the new regional Mental Health Facility for Adolescents and Children and Families at Foster Green Hospital, Mr McGimpsey said: "A world-class service needs modern state of the art facilities.
"This new regional mental health facility will provide 18 places for adolescents and 15 places for children along with overnight accommodation for parents."
