A cut above for Children in Need

AN 18-year-old Armagh teacher with long flowing locks did a 'Samson' for Children in Need and had his treasured tresses shaved off.

Accomplished polocrosse player Tom Hamilton-Stubber is soon to embark on a trip to South Africa to teach sport as an assistant boarding master at a prestigious prep school.

He decided to undertake the headshave before he went to raise money for the charity and says his mother is "delighted that he will be going with a reasonable length of hair".

He said he gets a lot of ribbing about his mane.

"There's quite a lot of slagging goes on, but they are all just jealous - especially the women," he laughed.

"All the women admire my hair constantly."

Tom said he plans to regrow his flowing locks.

"I'm not worried about it coming back - I'm only 18 so that shouldn't be a problem."

The running total for Children in Need 2009 late on Friday night stood at 12,691,312.
