'Be careful if ordering flowers on internet'

Choose your florist carefully if you're buying online this Mother's Day as what you see might not be what you get.

Consumer website which.co.uk compared bouquets from 13 popular flower delivery companies and, using a panel of mums and Which? gardening experts, discovered big differences in quality, value and how closely they matched the image on their website.

The top-rated bouquet came from Marks & Spencer, whose large serene bouquet received the highest overall rating of 86 per cent.

Featuring alstroemerias, hydrangeas, lilies and roses, it was praised for its expensive flowers and how long they lasted.

The website also included a lot of detail about the bouquet including the flower varieties and number of blooms provided.

Other highly rated bouquets came from Next and Interflora, which were both found to use attractive flowers of a high quality that were well arranged.

When Clinton Cards’ plum spectacular bouquet arrived it contained only pink flowers as opposed to the plum shown online and mentioned in its name.

The which.co.uk experts described it as “more pink surprise than plum spectacular”.

Although Aldi’s pink rose and lily bouquet was the cheapest, the experts felt it was poor value.

They described the foliage as “dried and ill”, the lilies as “skinny” and one mum said she would have felt “disappointed” to receive the flowers as a gift.

The bouquet received the lowest overall score of 36 per cent.

Jess Ross, editor of which.co.uk, said: “If you want Mother’s Day to be a blooming success, order your flowers as early as you can and choose a website that has lots of detail about the bouquets available – that way you’re more likely to get the flowers you want.”
