Christine makes waves in charity bid

ULSTER TV star Christine Bleakley has become the first woman to water-ski across the English Channel.

The Newtownards woman made the 21 mile trip across one of the world's busiest shipping lanes in approximately one hour and forty minutes.

Christine's water-ski challenge, which she undertook in the hope of raising 1 million for Sport Relief, had been delayed from Wednesday because of gale force winds across the channel.

Christine, who underwent an extensive training regime, faced one of the toughest physical and mental challenges of her life in chilly conditions.

The 31-year-old was moved to undertake the challenge following a trip to Uganda with Sport Relief in 2008.

She said: "It's so easy to come home from a trip like that and forget about what you've seen and keep going about your everyday life. I didn't want to do that.

"I'll never forget the people that I met and I want to do something to help them. Please support me by making a donation as it really will help change lives."

Footage of Christine's challenge can be viewed on The One Show tonight on BBC.
