Church set to protest at Gay Pride parade
FREE Presbyterian minister the Rev David McIlveen will this morning lead a protest against Belfast's Gay Pride parade in the city centre.
Organisers of the parade have said they are expecting up to 10,000 in the city to take part and support their colourful demonstration which the Parades Commission has described as "a welcome addition to the city" and "a colourful and positive celebration of all lifestyles which co-exist in Belfast".
Last night the Rev McIlveen said "the one thing we need in Belfast is God's blessing", adding that "God's blessing comes in conformity and anything that is a deviation from his word is going to be harmful".
He said protestors taking part today "come from a theological position and believe the Bible teaches that the act of homosexuality or sodomy is contrary to the teaching for the benefit and for the construction of mankind in the sense that it is not there to replenish the world".
He said: "And indeed we find that God has put a line very clearly in his word that homosexuality is an abomination. I know that will always fuel people's resentment, but we also make the point that adultery is also an abomination as far as the Bible is concerned."
